Corrections Department Publishes Register of Custodial Facilities and Visiting Arrangements
Office of the Spokesperson
The Corrections Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the register of its custodial facilities. The register records five custodial establishments and one court custody suite: Northgate Custody Centre, Eastfield Remand Centre, Westbrook Resettlement Centre, Southbank Women's Centre, Meridian Young Adults Centre and the Central Exchange Court Custody Suite. For each, the register sets out the location, the function, the certified normal accommodation and the operational capacity.
At establishment the five establishments held 1,046 persons against a certified normal accommodation of 1,252 places and an operational capacity of 1,340 places, an occupancy of 78 per cent of operational capacity. Of those held, 287 were on remand awaiting trial or sentence and 759 were serving a sentence. No establishment was above its certified normal accommodation.
Visits by family and friends, which continued under interim arrangements during the transition period, resume under the Department's own rules from Saturday 12 September 2026. Every establishment offers visiting sessions on at least three days each week, including one weekend day. Visits are booked by writing to the Department not less than 48 hours in advance. The visiting timetable for every establishment, the rules on identification and property, and guidance for families are set out on the Families and Visitors page of this site.
The register will be revised whenever the function or capacity of an establishment changes, and the population of each establishment will be reported quarterly on the Statistics page.
