About the Department

The Corrections Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network is responsible for the safe and decent custody of persons committed by the courts of the Velocity Interoperability Network, for their rehabilitation while in custody, and for their supervision and resettlement on release.

It operates five custodial establishments and a court custody suite, provides education, work and offending behaviour programmes, maintains contact between those in custody and their families, and publishes the standards to which its establishments are held.

Milestones

  1. 6 September 2026

    Department established

    Responsibility for the five custodial establishments and the court custody suite of the Network, holding 1,046 persons, transferred from the interim arrangements of member organisations.

  2. 6 September 2026

    corrections.gov.vin launched

    The register of facilities, visiting arrangements, programmes, standards and the first statistical release published on the official website.

  3. 12 to 28 September 2026

    Visits, education and work resume under the Department's rules

    Family visits from 12 September, education classes from 14 September, workshop and horticulture placements from 21 September and offending behaviour programmes from 28 September.

  4. Forthcoming

    Independent inspection and quarterly reporting

    The constitution of an independent inspectorate of custody, and the Department's first full quarterly statistical report for the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be announced in the Newsroom.
